Some women are born with a natural instinct to nurture. Lorraine Matshego, Head Therapist at Amani Spa at Shepherd’s Tree, found her path organically through childhood and instinctual healing—massaging her family, experimenting with make-up, and being told by those around her, “You’re gifted with people.” In 2018, she formalised that gift by completing her Cosmetology qualification.

I was sceptical at first,” she admits, “but I gave it a chance—and everything has fallen into place.”

Crafting a Journey Through Touch

From her early practical training at a safari lodge in the North West, to the fast-paced environment at Sun International’s Gary Player Spa, Lorraine sharpened her skills and deepened her passion for massage. She joined Amani in 2022, drawn by the care, standards, consistency, and company values that resonated deeply with her. At Shepherd’s Tree, she found more than a workplace—she found a space where her intuitive approach to healing could flourish.

I connect with people through energy. I feel a guest’s aura, and can intuitively read how they are feeling, and how open they are to the treatment. Understanding where a guest is at helps me to meet them exactly there.”

Guests often arrive fatigued, jet-lagged, or emotionally depleted—and Lorraine meets them with calm presence and practiced skill, often recommending Amani’s signature Sleep Well massage, with its soothing lavender, neroli, and chamomile oils.

Stepping Into Something New

Late in 2024, Lorraine was promoted to the position of Head Therapist at Shepherd’s Tree. While still early in her leadership journey, she has already embraced the challenge with humility and grace. From stock-taking and cash-ups to guiding others on the team, her role now carries added weight—but also deeper meaning.

Before, I just came in, welcomed my guests, and then left. Now, I have to lead,” she says. “Leadership isn’t about being a dictator. It’s about understanding your team, identifying strengths, and supporting each other on a very human level.” Her quiet, grounded approach allows her to lead without force—earning respect by listening, uplifting, and staying true to who she is.

Rooted in Family, Driven by Purpose

Lorraine’s life outside of work speaks volumes about her strength. She commutes 45 minutes each way to work, often leaving home before sunrise to be on time. She’s a dedicated mother to a 10-year-old daughter and has taken on additional family responsibilities too.

Despite the demands, Lorraine finds ways to care for herself. “I sing,” she smiles. “It calms my mind when I’m anxious.” On her off days, she rests deeply—carving out rare but sacred moments of self-care. “Love yourself enough to find time for you,” she advises. “Even if it’s just one day.

A Dream of Giving Back

Lorraine dreams of one day opening a wellness space in a hospital—a calm sanctuary for nurses and doctors who spend long hours on their feet. She’s seen the toll their work takes: fatigue, burnout, varicose veins. “Even just a small room in the basement would do,” she imagines, “where they can come in, breathe, rest and recover.” It’s a vision rooted in the same empathy that guides her daily work: the belief that everyone deserves peace and care.

The Spirit of Amani Lives Here

Lorraine embodies the essence of Amani—not just through her technical skill, but through the way she connects, cares, and quietly leads. Her story reminds us that healing is not just about treatments—it’s about energy, presence, and the invisible bonds of support between women.

She is a mother, a therapist, a guide, and a quiet force of nature. A true Amani Star.
